Soaring Eagle Winter Dance Workshop

By Roy Cook

This first week after the Holidays it is a clear night with a full moon in the sky. It is a time for reflective thought. Many of our community have been struggling with health issues. And for some this will be their last winter. Our good friend John Hood shared his emotions and prayers in Navajo, along with a song for recent deaths that were close to many in the urban San Diego American Indian community.

However, with constant joy and hope we hope you will enjoy the happy images of our newer and young Soaring Eagle dancers from the 1/07/15 Soaring Eagle Dance workshop at the SDUSD Ballard center in Old Town San Diego. The Ballard Center location is in Old Town: San Diego Unified School District, SDUSD at Ballard Parent Center 2375 Congress St. San Diego, CA 92110.

We recognize and thank the drum for the songs and all who contributed to our first pot luck winter feast. The Soaring Eagles also appreciate the art donations that will benefit the community pot luck feed.

This Soaring Eagle dance workshop continues to encourage the continuity of our tribal cultures and is bound up in the wisdom lessons of traditional life. This month is still a good time to review dance regalia and adjust for growth or wear in anticipation of the next month pow wow.

It is our constant spiritual message for all my relations. May the Creator bless you all and your family, Mehan, Aho.
