Soaring Eagles Dance Thru the Long Days of Summer

Tonight the summer weather was a bit cooler at the start of the evening. In spite of fewer faces in the circle the summer joy was evident in the younger dancers’ eyes. Simply by looking around at the families, our views of the parents and children are constantly inspiring. What we see most clearly are the bright smiles and eager faces of the children attending this Soaring Eagle night in the park dance workshops.

This evening is unique because we can see the seeds of our Indian music, dance, respect and spirituality being introduced to new sets of families and very young dancers. We are empowered by the reception and pow wow trails traveled by past youth and parents in the Soaring Eagle experience. We can all share in our children’s pride of culture and dancers achievements.

Announcement about the coming fall season brought smiles all around. The Eagles have renewed their association and contract with Title 6 Indian Education Program. The Program will host our Workshops at the Ballard Center and cover insurance. We will also be offering a class in aspects of Native Culture, details to be worked out. Currently we have a teacher involved with our Soaring Eagles program, Ms. Danielle Bartelli. Parents through the PAC will have input as to the content with self direction of the group. More participation from the community and networking will enable focus and relevancy for our students and optimism for academic goals/objectives. One of the pictures shows parents sharing ideas already for that program. We all look forward to these things and appreciate the efforts and input. Thanks to John Hood for sharing some background on the PAC and for these great pictures.

Everyone is welcome to attend the ‘Balboa Park’ Soaring Eagle (6-8:00pm) summer dance workshops. We invite you to bring your children and family to learn by observation and participation, a traditional way, the pow wow dance, music, protocol and also enjoy the friendship of the gatherings. Also, remember to bring a potluck item or side dish for the Soaring Eagles evening feast. Again, everyone is welcome to attend the ‘in the park’ dance workshops.
