Soaring Eagles Dance Into the New Year We gathered on one of the last few days
of the month for our Soaring Eagles Workshop. Many of our dancers and
families participated in the annual MLK, Jr. Parade. We're all proud
to see them out representing and sharing our Indian culture and presence
in the community. Their participation was recognized with a Third Place
trophy in the Drill Team category. Congratulations to All. Aho. This
Sat, Feb 2, Soaring Eagles will be participating in the Cuyamaca College
Pow wow. Click
here for the Flier and details. It will be indoors in the Student
Center. Hope to see everyone there! These workshops are immersions into traditional tribal culture and participation in public American Indian gatherings. These allow us to endure and remain a vital cultural, political, social, and moral presence in the San Diego region.
Our shawl dancers really came to dance and the pictures just show a little bit of that enthusiasm and spirit. A close look shows several dancers getting a little 'Air Time' and the songs brought out by the Singers always helps!
Most of our young men tonight were dancing in the Traditional style. Sticks, hoops, bells and a horse or two helps bring out those moves especially in the Sneak-up. We appreciate our older dancers taking the opportunity to be in the circle and support our young dancers. Our mentor Chuck Cadotte works with all our dancers each time, even tonight showing a few double beat steps to a special song when it was called for. An innovation was announced for all Soaring Eagle families to join in the Culture Classes being offered most Tuesday evenings at the Ballard Center. They are part of the Indian Education Program SDUSD. Attached is the schedule and contact info. With that invite was also announced a large donation of fabric for regalia and shawls so its a great chance to make regalia items and have some materials and instruction too. Hope to see you there.
