Soaring
Eagles Dance Into Summer Tonight
was a Community Night and we had some special activities. The Digital
Story Telling Workshop for Native Youth is a 3-day event July 29 - 31
for ages 13 - 24 at University of San Diego. Click
here for Flier and RSVP Info. After a blessing, our evening meal was pot roast and mashed potatoes provided by the Clinic. Potluck items of green salads, macaroni salad, veggie tray, and melons rounded out the fine offerings. Thanks to all who brought food to share, and carrying on these tribal traditions. These workshops are immersions into traditional tribal culture and participation in public American Indian gatherings allow us to endure and remain a vital cultural, political, social, and moral presence in the San Diego region. We are fortunate to have volunteers to share their dance and song experience and truly blessed to have children eager to have a good time doing Indian things. Such spirit was heartening to see. Particularly the young ones already picking up the finer points like hands on the waist. Several of our older, experienced dancers were in the circle tonight perhaps getting ready for the pow wows coming up or just enjoying a break from school and schedule. Its always good to see their lives include these traditions.
Many of these young dancers are already champions and are frequently asked to fill leadership positions at many pow wows. They continue to make us proud and remind us that Soaring Eagles has always been and remains about our Indian children. Thanks to All who help make it possible.
