Soaring
Eagles at Ballard Center Tribute
By Roy Cook, Vickie Gambala
This September 25, 2013 many of the local Tribal people on and off the Tribal reservations and friends joined the Soaring Eagles this evening for a Tribute to the California Indian. Our Respected elder, Jane Dumas along with: Randy Edmonds, Vickie Gambala, Estelle Fisher and our representative from the SDUSD Indian Education program coordinator: Connie Greybull at 619-293-4427 enjoyed this fine respectful presentation. It is
our Traditional Indian way to practice hospitality and generosity when
we invite all to attend each Indian gathering and share the potluck meal
with the whole community. Our future dance workshop meetings will be an
appreciation of many of our Indian children moving forward on the education
trail to the future.
This continuity of culture was underscored by our keynote speaker tonight: Ral Christman, I got to sing and speak tonight. Doing as the kids say "reppin that Kumeyaay Rez life". It is always an honor to try and do what generations of greats have done in the past. And work with kids who will do it when Im gone.
If you could not
join in this past evening perhaps we will see you at a future Soaring
Eagle dance workshop: San Diego Unified School District, SDUSD, Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress St. San Diego, CA 92110.
Our focus for the Soaring Eagle program is constantly and always will be the Native American children. For Soaring Eagle contact, presentations or information call Vickie Gambala, 619-266-2887 also VickieGambala@gmail.com. |
