Soaring Eagles Winter Dance Workshop

By Roy Cook

There was an excellent attendance at this January 22, 2014 at 6:30pm Soaring Eagle’s Workshop. The program is in an adolescence stage as are many of the original youth. Many are taller and filling in their previous child proportions. Their Dance Regalia is beyond adjustment and many are on their third version of their outfits. The workshop is in comfortable street clothes. Our future dance workshop meetings are a continuation of all our efforts to encourage many of our Indian children as they move forward on the education and culture trails to the future. We hope to encourage more of the parents to participate and lead by example on the dance floor.

It is our Traditional Indian way to practice hospitality and generosity when we invite all to attend each dance workshop and participate by contributing and sharing the potluck meal with the whole community. Over 100 attendees shared the: fried chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, 4 selections of salad with dressing and bread and butter. Also, chips, soda pop and five birthday sweet tooth selections and donuts.

If you did not join in the last evening gathering perhaps we will see you at a future 2014 Soaring Eagle dance workshop: Jan. 29, Feb. 5, 12, 26, March 5, 12, 26, April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 2014.

Location: San Diego Unified School District, SDUSD, Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress St. San Diego, CA 92110.

The workshops continue the pow wow dance instruction and regalia advice with: Randy Edmonds, Vickie Gambala, SDUSD parent committee and two drums of volunteer singers.

Our focus for the Soaring Eagle program is constantly and always will be the Native American children. For Soaring Eagle contact, presentations or information call Vickie Gambala, 619-266-2887 also VickieGambala@gmail.com.
